Superior General visits the mission in Albania
The youngest community in Europe was pleased to welcome to receive the Superior General, Fr. Michael Brehl, and General Consultor Fr. Alberto Eseverri from 20th to 23rd February.
It was a fraternal visit, with the intention of getting to know the life and mission of the community, the only interprovincial comunity directly under the General Government in Europe. Because of the condition of our house in Kamëz, which is very damp, Fr. Michael and Fr. Alberto stayed in our flat in Bathore, with Fr. Andrzej. They brought many gifts and symbols of the Congregation for the community, which lacks these things having been recently founded: only five months ago!
There were no oficial meetings, but the visitors were involved from the begining in all pastoral activities of the Mission. They participated in Via Crucis, catechesis, prayers and several of the Sunday Eucharists, in which Fr. General said a few words of greeting and thanks to the faithful of Kamëz, Bathore, Kasallë, Arrameras and Luz.
Although the country is poor, the community has many highly educated young people who, without difficulty, translated from Italian or English into Albanian.
On Saturday 21st, Fathers Michael and Alberto visited the bishops of Tirana-Durres, who consider the presence of our confreres in the archdiocese a gift from God, because there are few priests in the country. Both the Bishops and Fr. General and Fr. Consultor, shared their admiration for the rapid adaptation process that our confreres had experienced, who already are able to communicate regularly in the local language.
The meals were one day English style, another Polish and one Spanish, enjoying pleasant conversation, and there was time to visit Tirana and Kruja. But above all there was time to be together and share this experience that has led the congregation to be with the most abandoned, in the poorest country in Europe.
